Headset Specs Explained
With a proliferation of headset specs in the last few years it has become increasingly difficult to determine which headset will fit in which frame. Hopefully explaining the jargon used to identify headsets will help make it easier to get the headset you need.
This is an example of a code used to describe a particular headset.
The first group of numbers (to the left of the vertical line) describe the upper part of the headset while the second group of numbers (to the right of the vertical line) describe the part of the headset that will fit into the bottom of the head tube.
The first letters 'EC' refer to the type of headset being described and is explained above.
The second set of numbers ' 34' refers to the size of the hole in the top of your head tube where the headset cups or bearings will go.
The second number "28.6" refers to the diameter of the fork where you will clamp the stem. Most contemporary bikes use the '28.6' size which is a 1 1/8" fork.
The vertical line seperates the upper and lower parts of the headset.
The first letters 'EC' refer to the type of headset being described and is explained above.
The second set of numbers "34" refers to the size of the hole in the bottom of your head tube where the headset cups or bearings will go.
The '30' refers to the size of the crown race that will fit on the sterrer tube of the fork that will be installed with the frame.
We hope that makes selecting the correct headset for your frame a little easier. If you are still unsure of what you need please contact us at our sales email and hopefully we can sort things out for you.
